No one wants to have pests invade there home, but it happens to the best of us. In the case of an infestation, immediate reaction is imperative to keep it from getting out of control. Yes, reactions, but what about being proactive? Can’t we stop the infestation from ever happening in the first place? Well, maybe. A sanitized, clean and clutter free space can keep pests from finding a comfortable place to call their new home.

At American Pest Control, we are taking some time to inform you about “housekeeping” techniques that may stop you from ever having to call us! After all, it is much easier to control pests from entering your home than it is to get them out once they’re there.  Here are some important tips:

Clean food from places it doesn’t belong.

There can be numerous places food is left laying around.  Be sure to regularly sweep crumbs from the floor. Wipe eating surfaces like tables, counters and placemats. Make sure your food preparation areas are cleaned upon finishing. Sweep and clear food from your pantry and cabinets.

Clear your yard of debris.

It can be tempting to leave a pile of yard clippings in the corner and deal with it later. It’s better to deal with it now.  Don’t make a harborage for pests. Keep tidy bushes and garden areas that are free from dead plant debris.

Maintain your garage.

It’s probably the last place you want to sweep, but your garage easily collects webs, spiders and other bugs. Sweep and clear your garage often to prevent it from attracting pests.

Minimize clutter.

Clutter is very good at collecting dust, dirt and webs.  It also is good at making a home difficult to keep clean. If you can eliminate obstacles to a clean home, it will be easier for you to achieve.

Dust, dust, dust.

Don’t just dust your furniture. You will need to get the nooks and crannies that are easy to miss. Be sure to consistently dust the windowsills, blinds and corners of rooms.

Vacuum and sweep daily.

Your floors gather much more debris than you probably realize. Some of it may be food, but bugs are also attracted to eating other organic matter. Keep your home looking great and give the bugs less to eat by sweeping and vacuuming daily.

We hope that by taking these steps, you will have a more beautiful home that is not only well-kept, but also less likely to have pests. Of course, there is no fail-safe method to keeping your home 100% free from bugs or pests and in the event that you need professional help, we hope that you remember to call American Pest Control.
